Slavic and Norse Music – Percival, pt IV

Percival is full of good musical ideas, when it comes to musical reenactment. Today we want to share the Eastern Slavonic “Pasla”.

The song, sang in Ruthenian language, tells of a fate of a young girl, a swan herder, who parted with her beloved. Either he died in battle or left her for another. She misses him so much that she curses her fate, a bad fate that is  washing her happiness like running waters of the rivers. She sings  it’s better to be drowned than part ways with the beloved.
